The ugly truth seen through the tangle of my chaotic mind

It was bound to happen, I knew it was coming but that didn’t lessen the shock any.  My bad habit of avoidance has caught up with me in a big way.   Yesterday was ugly, the worst I’ve had in months.  Not one single thing went right, everything ended up even more tangled than when I started.  When everything happened beginning my WTF year, I made a joke.  Alex, my ex-roommate, the one who promised to ruin my life had taken everything, all except my job.  That was the only scrap of my old life left.  My only hope for stability.

Human Resources is making it nearly impossible for me to come back.  I’ve gotten e-mails from them, some of the answers taking them over a week to respond to.  Some of the messages had attachments I was supposed to open, print up, fill out and submit.  However, their beyond paranoid computer programs, three step authentication bull shit is ridiculous and is preventing me from opening, printing or completing anything.  Now I got a new request for additional approvals they need to run on me.  A new background check is necessary for being out sick for six weeks.  And they are doing a DMV recheck, I was asked if I had had any traffic infractions in the past 3 months.  LOL  Never arrested, still out  of jail.  However, three traffic stops, one for breaking the sound barrier, the other for driving an unregistered, uninsured car.  The third an improper lane change through a red llight.  Thank God my rental car crash wasn’t recorded with the DMV and I wasn’t insured.  Yup red flags.  HR rules are clear, we are to drive the company vehicles in a safe, careful manner.  The speed is recorded, any over limits are instantly texted to your boss. My driving doesn’t scream, or even whisper safe and careful. Me I lean more towards reckless and crazy.  It’s going to be a huge road block, if not a complete stop.  I cannot work there without a valid license.  I might lose that too.  Alex 100, K. 0

I’ve clawed my way out of rock bottom and was almost standing.  Then  the floor dropped out from under me.  I got an eviction, I owe three months rent.  I don’t have a car so even living in one isn’t an option.  All the utilities are shut-off notices.  My cupboards are empty but food costs money.  It’s something that’s scarce right now.   Insurance red tape is preventing my pay check from coming.  And now HR wants a letter from a doctor, not my shrink.  I don’t have a doctor, I’m on a waiting list with over a six month wait.  Letter’s not coming.

Today help arrived.  Two agencies that are going to take over the problems.  With any luck I’ll be solvent by the end of the month.  My old self says, run it’s not going to happen, nothing good ever does.  The new me is trying to trust that it might happen.

The jury’s still out. No clue how this plays out.
But if it all goes sideways, I guess I’ll be the only woman in town comparing tent fabrics like it’s a home renovation project.

Still standing, ready to break out my air mattress,

K.
